Capital refers to an organization’s supply of useful assets or advantages. In this sense, an organization’s employees can indeed be described as human capital – they are assets of the organization, much like financial capital or other resources. Yet we shouldn’t make the mistake of thinking that our employees are as easy to manage as our financial assets!

Humans differ from financial capital most notably in their complexity – effective people management is incredibly complex, because humans are complex – much more so than financial capital.
